PRSI Dental Benefits

If you pay PRSI, you may be entitled to dental treatment under the PRSI Treatment Benefit Scheme. At Blue Poppy Dental, we make it easy to understand your entitlement and help you get the most from your available dental benefits.

Understanding Your PRSI Dental Benefit

The Treatment Benefit Scheme is provided by the Department of Social Protection and may cover certain dental services for people who meet the required PRSI contribution conditions.

Your entitlement depends on your individual PRSI contribution record and circumstances.

Treatment Benefit Scheme

Get the most from your available benefits

Our Blue Poppy Dental team can help you understand your entitlement and explain which PRSI-supported treatments may be available to you.

What dental treatment can I get with PRSI?

If you qualify for the PRSI Treatment Benefit Scheme, you may be entitled to the following dental benefits.

âś“

Annual Dental Examination

Eligible patients can receive one dental examination each calendar year as part of their PRSI dental entitlement.

✦

Subsidised Scale & Polish

You may also be entitled to a scale and polish, with the PRSI scheme contributing towards the cost. A patient contribution may apply.

✧

Periodontal Treatment

Where clinically appropriate, eligible patients may qualify for a contribution towards Protracted Periodontal Treatment. This can be relevant for patients who require more extensive gum treatment.

Your PRSI dental entitlement is generally available once per calendar year, from 1 January to 31 December. Unused benefits do not normally carry over into the following year.

Who is eligible for PRSI dental treatment?

Your PRSI Contribution History

Your eligibility depends on your PRSI contribution history and the class of PRSI you have paid.

The Treatment Benefit Scheme can apply to people who have paid certain PRSI contribution classes, including:

Class A Class E Class P Class H Class S

Partner Eligibility

Eligibility requirements can vary depending on your circumstances.

In some situations, a spouse, civil partner or cohabiting partner may also be able to qualify for Treatment Benefit based on their partner's PRSI record.

How do I check my PRSI dental entitlement?

Before your appointment, we can help you check whether you are eligible for PRSI dental benefits.

You will generally need details such as your:

  • PPS Number
  • Date of birth
  • Permission to have your PRSI entitlement checked

Once your eligibility has been confirmed, we can let you know which PRSI-supported treatments may be available to you.

Because PRSI entitlement is based on your individual contribution record, we recommend checking your eligibility before arranging treatment.

Can I use PRSI for a dental hygienist appointment?

Depending on your eligibility and the treatment you require, your PRSI entitlement may contribute towards a scale and polish.

If you are interested in using your PRSI benefit for a hygienist appointment, speak to the Blue Poppy Dental team when booking. We can explain what may be covered and what, if anything, you may need to pay.
